Havana.- Investments in the development of Cuba’s telephony will reach 74 million dollars this year, as part of the sector’s expansion.

Authorities from the Ministry of Informatics and Communications pointed out that investments allow working on cellular telephony to improve such services, particularly in away-from-it-all areas.

Those efforts respond to Cuban authorities’ interest in computerizing society, including a better use of new technologies, an improved infrastructure, the development informatics, research and the software industry, and better services.

By this year’s end, Cuba will have six telephone lines per 100 inhabitants, a rate that will reach 14 per 100 people in the capital.

Statistics also show that Cuba has 2.3 computers per every 100 people, and 150,000 Internet clients.

The Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A. (ETECSA), the island’s main provider, announced the installation of 54,000 telephone lines this year in an effort to improve services.
