Havana.- Telephony has developed steadily over the past few years in Cuba, where 79 percent of the technical infrastructure has been digitalized.

That digitalization rate was achieved after the installation of two Chinese-made plants in Sancti Spiritus and Trinidad.

According to telecommunications authorities, new digital plants will be installed in Guantánamo and the city of Moron by this year’s end, increasing the digitalization rate to 81 percent.

Modernization works will be carried out in the southeastern part of Havana, and in eastern Las Tunas and Granma provinces.

The Sancti Spiritus plant will improve the quality of phone calls and data transmission, in addition to allowing all citizens in the region to call the rest of the country automatically.

The modernization process also included the use of a fiber optic cable, digital microwave connections and other works that contribute to improving the reliability and quality of telephone services.
