Havana.- The company Cítricos Ceiba, in western Cuba, has reported an increase in citrus sales in the international market.

According to preliminary figures, grapefruit exports during the ongoing harvest exceed 3,000 tons, high above results during last year’s harvest (1,500 tons).

Exports must conclude this month, although the harvest will continue to meet the demand from industry and the domestic market.

The plant processes 300 tons of citrus a day. The fruit is washed, dried, covered with paraffin and packed in boxes.

The factory processes 32 varieties of citrus for the tourism sector, where the company has 465 clients among hotels, restaurants and cafeterias, from eastern Holguín to western Pinar del Río province. They buy 11 kinds of juice, fruit and vegetables harvested under special conditions to improve quality.

Cítricos Ceiba had revenues of nearly seven million dollars last year.
