Havana.- Cuban chromium may be exported to Asian markets, and there are good prospects to include China among the foreign markets to where the mineral will be exported.

The company Cromo Moa, located in eastern Holguín province and the only industry of its kind specialized in extracting and commercializing chromium, is weighing new investments to improve the mineral’s quality.

Company executives pointed out that China is interested in importing high-quality chromium with metallurgic characteristics to produce ferrochromium.
So far, the mineral obtained in northeastern Holguín is the refractory kind, which is highly demanded in Europe.

However, works will begin soon in the Pinares de Mayarí plateau, where chromium is purer, and technological conditions will be improved at Las Merceditas plant.

Cuban chromium has benefited from a rise in prices in the world market, so its chances to compete at international level are greater.
