Havana.- The Empresa Pesquera Industrial de Cienfuegos, in central Cuba, has reported an increase in shrimp fishing during the first few months of this year.

According to preliminary figures, this year’s plan – 500 tons – has been overachieved at 104 percent.

The company has 12 ships for shrimp fishing, five backup boats and one vessel equipped with state-of-the-art technology to fish at high sea. They fish in the Ana Marķa Gulf, south of eastern Ciego de Avila province.

By this year’s end, shrimp fishing is expected to contribute 100 tons over last year’s production, thanks to the excellent technical conditions of the fleet and a better supply of inputs.

The company is working to concentrate shrimp processing at high seas with an eye to obtaining a better product.

In addition, the company reduced the cost per ton by 231 dollars, and increased net revenues.
