Alimport, Cuba’s official agency responsible for imports into Cuba from the United States, has selected Tampa-based A.R. Savage & Son, Inc. as its shipping agents for all legal export transactions from Tampa Bay into Cuban ports.
Pedro Alvarez Borrego, chairman and CEO of Alimport, and Arthur Savage, president and CEO of A.R. Savage & Son, signed the agreement.
Savage has been serving as Alimport’s agent for chartered vessels coming into Tampa Bay and loading products purchased for Cuba since January 2003. The formal agreement was signed recently in Havana during the second anniversary of the renewed shipments between the U.S. and Cuba. “Given all of the restrictions imposed by the U.S. government, the trade that has occurred with Cuba during the past two years is nothing short of amazing. We are honored and very enthusiastic about our representation of the Cubans, and the future re-establishment of the historic cultural and trade ties between Tampa and Cuba,” said Arthur Savage.
