Deputy Minister of Minerals and Energy Susan Shabangu and Cuba’s Minister of Economic Cooperation and Investment Martha Lomas on Friday signed an agreement of cooperation in the mining and energy sectors.
The agreement will enable further collaboration between the two countries in electricity, hydrocarbons, mining, and human resources Development.
The visit by Minister Lomas of Cuba is part of a 5-nation Southern Africa working visit and the department has identified Cuba as one of the countries that it has to establish relations with in order to enhance the economic and social development between the two countries.
The agreement stipulates that the two countries shall endeavor to promote co-operation in the field of mining through the exchange of information on technologies, government programmes, commercialisation and marketing potential, the training and development of specialists for the mining and minerals industry.
The exchange of information pertaining to the two countries’ overall energy policy and strategies, energy priority sectors, institutional arrangements, regulatory frameworks, technology transfer, research and development, and establishment of databanks and commercialisation of energy technologies.
