I would appreciate knowing more about Morro Castle, especially the history around 1846.

In my family documents it is mentioned that my Great Great Granffather was imprisoned there for about 8 Months in 1846.
He reported that he saw a Cuban rebel, Lopez, Garroted.

I would be interested in verifying this bit of family lore if any of the old records have survived.

Is there any organizationt that might have access to the records of the Morro Castle prison from 1846?

    Howard:

Did you receive a response. My grandfather Enrique Salinas, was also encarcerated in the Morro Castle Prison just prior to and/or during the Spanish America War. I’ve been unable to find documentation. He married Marcelina Capote and migrated to Tampa, Florida in 1904.
