Iran Cuba relations strengthened

Outgoing Cuban Ambassador to Tehran Jose Ramon Rodriguez met here Saturday with president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Presidential Office Media Department said that Ahmadinejad called the Tehran, Havana ties as excellent, brotherly and growing.

Although the geographical distance between the two states is long but, their common and shared views and cooperation pertaining to international issues have been impetus for forging closer ties, he underlined.

“Our relations with Cuba is strategic and deep-seated and our people follow the news on Cuba with great interest and are sensitive in developments in the region,” Ahmadinejad said in the meeting.

Rodriguez also said Cuba is interested in expansion of relations in all areas with Tehran.

Iran and Cuba signed a comprehensive document for bolstering bilateral cooperation in Havana In January.

The document was inked by Iran’s Agriculture Jihad Minister Mahmoud Hojjati and Cabrisas on the final day of the 10th meeting of Iran-Cuba Joint Economic Commission.

According to the document, Iran and Cuba would expand cooperation in various commercial, banking, agriculture, health and cultural fields.

The two sides also said they will expand cooperation in the areas of sugar industry, fishery, biotechnology, sports, transportation, development projects, investment, tourism, information technology and communications and water resources.

The document stipulates for the two countries to provide more facilities in banking relations with the aim of preparing the grounds for promoting economic and trade ties and making use of mutual scientific, research and industrial capabilities.
