Academic rigor and a plurality of ideas in discussion of important world events will characterize debates at the 7th International Economists Meeting on Globalization and Problems of Development to be held next month in Havana.

Esther Aguilera, chairperson of the event, said during a press conference on Friday that the event will take place on February 7-11 at the Havana Convention Center with the presence of professionals in the fields of economic, political and social sciences from 27 nations.

As in previous years the debates will include the participation of representatives from international financial institutions like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank.

Among the many prestigious academics scheduled to attend are Nobel Prize laureates in Economics.

Analysts will exchange on globalization and the current financial and monetary situation as well as the uncertainty and rapid changes in the world economy and their effects on the crisis of developed nations. This, as a preamble to the call the United Nations will make this year to revise the compliance of the treaties and the goals set at the Millennium Summit.

Globalization and trade perspectives as part of multilateralism and regionalism are also scheduled for discussion.

In that light, the fate of the Free Area of the Americas and counter proposals like the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, will be examined during the conference.

Development as a multi-dimensional phenomenon, its real possibility within globalization and the social and labor problems in the capitalist underdeveloped world will also be analyzed.

Other topics include oil prices, the correlation between the Euro and the Dollar, markets and cultural diversity and the emergence of China as a powerhouse in the world economy. 

This 7th International Economists Meeting on Globalization and Problems of Development will seek to make practical proposals and look closely at the economies of resistance of the social movements that were strengthened in 2004.
