Havana.- The mining experience developed in the town of El Cobre, in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, will be used to exploit the gold field of Oro Barita, in that region.
According to experts, the site, located near the copper field that gave name to the town (El Cobre), could produce some 42,000 ounces of gold.
That volume, considering current prices in the international market, would place investments in the development of the gold field in a very advantageous position.
Geological research began in 1982 with a detailed prospecting work and concluded recently with a feasibility study.
Oro Barita, the name of the place where the field is situated, sits in an area of 0.4 square kilometers, on a 170-meter-high hill that allows exploiting the quarry.
