Over 180 million dollars are to be spent on the refurbishment and specialization of ports in Cuba through 2010.
To ensure a better and more efficient functioning of the facilities, new high tech equipment, forklifts, silos and other handling devices have been ordered. Work on the dredging of port basins and installing of new piers is also scheduled.
Some of the equipment has been supplied seaway, including two Chinese hundred-ton cranes, said Deputy Minister for sea transport Gilberto Ponce Rios as reported By Granma daily.
Extra budgets will be assigned to the renovation of container terminals of the ports of Mariel (Havana), Santiago de Cuba, and Nipe (Holguin).
A couple weeks ago Cuba announced $150million to be allocated to the tourism industry and now this announcement.
Sounds like Cuba is gearing up a huge increase in tourism and shipping.
Hmmm, now just where would that huge increase come from? 
Something in the works deep inside the Cuban government?
