A workshop on Cuba – China trade cooperation was held by the Cuban Chamber of Commerce in Havana on Wednesday.

Prominent at the workshop were 30 entrepreneurs from the Chinese province of Jilin who are doing business in the areas of steel-making, biotechnology, petrochemistry, pharmaceuticals and food, and are on a visit to Cuba to seek trade opportunities in the island country.

Speaking at the workshop, General Secretary of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce Frank Abel Portela said China is one of the country’s major importers of sugar, nickel, biological products and cigars. However, during the Chinese trade delegation’s meetings with Cuban partners at the Investment Promotion Centre and the Export Promotion Centre, the two sides discussed the possibility of Cuba’s exporting coffee and fruits to China.

They also discussed the possibility of jointly producing by-products of the sugar-making industry, software programmes, and cooperating to penetrate the third market in Latin America.

During their stay in Cuba, the Chinese trade delegation had meetings with the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Cuban Ministries of Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade.
